Program Overview

Education programs have been offered each year in Omaha, Nebraska for the past 28 years. For the 2006-2007 class 29, the dates of Education Phase I are September 30-October 7, 2006. Education Phase I is an eight-day total-immersion course covering basic reproductive anatomy and physiology, history of natural family planning, all methods—natural and artificial—of family planning, and basic CrMS teaching skills.

The second phase is a six- to eight-day total immersion course covering more advanced system-related problems, advanced teaching skills, case management, basic ethical issues, and NaProTechnology. Only those students who have sucessfully completed Education Phase I may attend Education Phase II. The dates for Education Phase II for the 2006-2007 class 29 are:

  • April 14-21, 2007 for combined programs, Education-Phase II only medical consultants, and supervisors
  • April 15-21, 2007 for medical consultants
  • April 16-21, 2007 for practitioners
  • April 12-21, 2007 for educators

Following the first education phase is a six-month supervised practicum, which takes place at the student's home location. This practicum allows students to be supervised as they participate in this clinical experience working with client couples. Following the second education phase is another six-month supervised practicum, serving as a means for developing advanced student clinical experience.

Faculty is diverse, selected each year to compliment the education program.

Types of Education Programs and Applicant Eligibility

Education programs are designed for persons interested in providing the Creighton Model FertilityCare System and/or NaProTechnology. An application must be submitted and approved prior to the first education phase. Applications are welcomed from individuals or couples—national and international—with strong motivation and commitment to the very highest quality educational services in FertilityCare. For applicant eligibility, download and read the Education Program booklet.

Two education programs provide training to become a provider of the Creighton Model FertilityCare System:

  • Practitioner Program
  • Instructor Program

The program that trains physicians to provide NaProTechnology is:

  • Medical Consultant Program

To become a medical consultant, it is expected that this person work in conjunction with a practitioner. If there is no practitioner in the area, it is expected that another person attend the practitioner education program at the same time or be sent for training within two years following completion of the medical consultant program.

Only a combined program of Medical Consultant and Practitioner affords the opportunity to provide both the Creighton Model FertilityCare System and NaProTechnology. Combined programs are available for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and pharmacists.

Two advanced programs are available to those who have already completed a Practitioner education program.

  • Educator Program
  • Supervisor Program

The Educator Program develops the skills necessary to establish Practitioner/Instructor Education Programs and/or serve as faculty for existing education programs.

The Supervisor Program develops skills necessary to supervise students and to participate as faculty in Education Programs.

Auditing programs are available for individuals who do not meet the eligibility requirements.

All education programs are accredited by the American Academy of FertilityCare Professionals (AAFCP). All programs and their participants are required to adhere to the AAFCP Code of Ethics.

Pope Paul VI Institute FertilityCare Allied Health Educations Programs are jointly sponsored by the Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction and the Creighton University School of Medicine, Division of Continuing Medical Education, thereby providing CMEs for physicians and CEUs for nurses. The Education Program Booklet should be downloaded for CME/CEU information for these educational activities.

"Despite the hours, I felt I had (almost) a week-long retreat. Institute tour was awe-inspiring and inspirational (and motivational); as well as a concrete example of how God follows-up on acts of faith. The faculty were all very caring, helpful, knowledgeable, and patient—excellent role models!"
